Eastern Market Shed 4
As the Architect, KDG is honored to continue contributing to the evolution of Detroit’s oldest public market, which has been in continuous operation since 1891. This project both honors the market’s 130+ year legacy and supports its continued growth as a vibrant hub for Detroit’s community. Designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing pedestrian and vendor pathways, Shed 4 offers new functionality while drawing inspiration from the architectural language of the surrounding site. The proposed design is a modern take on classic architectural elements found in the market by reinventing the gable roofs, exposed structure, and masonry facades in a way that is both respectful of the market’s storied history and looks forward to the future of a contemporary, thriving marketplace.
