The Elliot
Located at the northwest corner of Grand River and Woodward Avenues, the historic Elliott building was once the William H. Elliott Dry Goods store and later a Kresge 25 cent to 1 dollar store. Designed by Wilson Brothers & Co of Philadelphia, the building was built in 1894. The current rehabilitation of the building turned the Elliott into 23 modern city apartments on the top six floors with first floor and basement retail space.
Each of the Elliott’s apartments feature streamlined kitchens with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, new historic-replica aluminum windows and privacy shades. The contemporary bathrooms feature walk-in showers with ceramic tile surrounds, linen closets and ceramic floors. The top two floors of the Elliott house the two-story penthouse units, the second floor of which was once the attic storage space left historically unfinished with exposed brick. The penthouse units have the magnificent arched windows with fantastic views of Detroit and open spiral staircases to access the upper level bedroom and loft areas.
