Hilton Garden Inn, Downtown Flint
Standing on a prominent downtown corner, the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Flint hotel spans two historic buildings: an eleven-story former bank built in 1920, and a five-story annex built a few years later. The Genesee County Bank built the building as their headquarters with office space above leased to professional offices. Kraemer Design Group served as architect and interior designer for the adaptive re-use of the buildings.
Many of the greatest challenges on this project are invisible to the visitor, by design. Significant structural and life safety challenges and were overcome while ensuring historic elements were maintained and incorporated into the new design. The result is a unique hotel that greatly increases the value of the property through its new use and amenities while capturing the spirit of the original architecture.
